Mental Health Care For All: Let's Make It A Reality

Mental health does not discriminate. Battling depression and anxiety for the past 25 years I have never shone away from talking about my journey, dark days and times when I really felt like I could not go on. It was talking and sharing my story that allowed me to help others and provide an ear they could talk to. This World Mental Health Day my message is simple ‘Look after each other, but mostly look after yourself. Never feel alone’.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people’s mental health. Some groups, including health and other frontline workers, students, people living alone, and those with pre-existing mental health conditions, have been particularly affected. And services for mental, neurological and substance use disorders have been significantly disrupted.

Yet there is cause for optimism. During the World Health Assembly in May 2021, governments from around the world recognized the need to scale up quality mental health services at all levels. And some countries have found new ways of providing mental health care to their populations.

Let's Take A Writing Journey Together

What is a Writer’s Notebook Seed?

Writing seeds are the ideas, thoughts or triggers that help inspire new writing. They can be teacher directed or collected by the student in their Writer’s Notebook.

This weeks resources are from MargD Teaching Posters

Plant Your Seed

Unpacking our thinking can look like many different things, we can use thinking routines, mind mapping and we can also use templates and organisers to support recording our thoughts.

When we think about Mental Health Day what a great way to come together than to share the things we love and hold so close to our hearts. You can do this in so many different ways. You can use the template supplied or you can draw your own heart in your notebook and fill it with words, phrases, quotes, cut outs, pictures and drawings.

No matter how old, how successful, how much money, or how many people love you, we are still human and feel lows and frustrations from time to time. It’s important to learn how to take care of yourself and cope with emotions. How do you practice mental wellness?

Make a flipgrid video sharing the following things with us:

What do you do to decompress or relax? What do you do to make yourself feel better if you’re sad? And who’s that person you like to have with you because they brighten up your day?
