Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean

Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.

This year’s United Nations World Oceans Day, on 8 June 2022, will highlight the theme Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.

This is the first hybrid celebration of the annual event, hosted in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York and broadcast live.

The ocean connects, sustains, and supports us all. Yet its health is at a tipping point and so is the well-being of all that depends on it. As the past years have shown us, we need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that no longer depletes its bounty but instead restores its vibrancy and brings it new life.

Join us as we shed light on the communities, ideas, and solutions that are working together to protect and revitalize the ocean and everything it sustains.

Plant The Seed - Unpack Your Thinking

Make Everyday World Ocean Day

This week’s thinking routine from the Project Zero Thinking Routine Toolbox is Color, Symbol, Image. A routine for distilling the essence of ideas non-verbal.

As you are viewing and reading the infographic, make a note of things that you find interesting, important, or insightful. In your Writer’s Notebook unpack your thinking using these prompts:

  • Choose a color that you feel best represents or captures the essence of a key idea.

  • Choose a symbol that you feel best represents or captures the essence of a key idea.

  •  Choose an image that you feel best represents or captures the essence of a key idea.

Let's Write

Prompt 1

Create a visual voice teaching others about protecting our oceans from plastic. You can use any digital poster using buncee or you might choose to design and create a bright meaningful poster OR combine both together.

Your aim is to raise awareness about the dangers of plastics in our oceans,  give suggestions for responsible use and be the voice that could change the world.

Here are some examples of posters from a project called ‘Posters Against Plastic Pollution’.

See more of these remarkable posters at https://unworldoceansday.org/posters-against-plastic-pollution/

Prompt 2

Listen to Why We Need to Stop Plastic Pollution in Our Oceans FOR GOOD by Oceana

Recording key ‘Wow’ facts from the video write a persuasive writing piece convincing people to stop polluting the oceans with plastic. Don’t forget to share your writing with us here at The Global Write on our Wakelet.

Prompt 3

My Pledge for World Oceans Day

🌊 This World Oceans Day we want you to make a pledge to do something to change, or to improve, the way that you use, reuse or recycle your plastic waste.  🌊

You can make a difference and help to save our oceans.

What will you do?

Make a short video stating what you will do.

Start your video by saying “My name is (first name) and this World Oceans Day I pledge to…”

Make sure you share your pledge in The Global Write Flipgrid group.
