Reimagine a Better Future for EVERY Child
World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s annual day of action for children, by children.
This year, the COVID-19 crisis has resulted in a child rights crisis. The costs of the pandemic for children are immediate and, if unaddressed, may last a lifetime.
It’s time for generations to come together to reimagine the type of world we want to create.
On 20 November, kids will reimagine a better world. What will you do?
This World Children’s Day is more important than any other, for the world to come together. In 2020, many of our children have faced unimaginable challenges as we battle together the COVID-19 Crisis.
I am an Australian but more than that I am a Global Citizen, uniting the world through the children of our world and their voices. This year the ABC TV Network joined children all over Australia during isolation to sing together. As the song ‘I am an Australian’ says –
“We are one, but we are many. And from all the lands on earth we come. We’ll share a dream and sing with one voice”
This World Children’s Day, from me to you. Let’s unite and remember we will get through this crisis together. AND I am Australian but together ‘WE ARE ONE’.

Write a sentence or short paragraph about how you could contribute to help build a better world for children. Draw a world you want to live in after Covid-19.

UNICEF (https://bit.ly/36yh9ZY) have examples of what children are drawing and saying. Think about the Global Goals such as food for all children, every child going to school, clean water to drink or a toilet in every child’s house. Maybe you might also add your work to the UNICEF Website.

Looks like lonely nights isolated at home, with no visitors allowed.
Smells like home cooked meals sizzling on the stove top.
Sounds like the distracting news, sharing stories of sadness.
Tastes like the chocolate melting in my mouth, used as a treat to get me through the dark days.
Feels like a cotton mask over my face, restricting my ability to breath with ease.
My future COVID Free World for Children:
Looks like children playing freely in the parks and playgrounds.
Smells like fresh popcorn popping at the cinemas as families gather to watch a movie.
Tastes like smooth milk sliding down the young boys throat as he sits at the local cafe on a Sunday afternoon.
Sounds like the babies crying in the prams as their parents take a leisurely stroll.
Feels like a world united that is healthy and free for all to live life to the fullest.
Draw an original picture or create a digital image to represent your post COVID- 19 world for children. Think about the Sustainable Goals.
Using your brainstorming from Step 1 transform your sentences into a piece of writing. Add an introduction sentence and a conclusion. Remember your writing represents a world you want to build for children after COVID-19. Match your image to your writing.
